Summer is just around the corner, and while we can’t wait to enjoy the season’s sunshine, the change in weather can actually do a number on our skin.  It’s important to be prepared with the proper summer skin routine.  Here are some ways in which we can protect our appearance and still enjoy the rays.

It’s true, you need sunscreen.  The single most important thing you can do in 80-degree direct heat is protecting your skin from the burn.  Skin cancer is a very real concern, and it’s necessary to lather up anytime you expect to be in the sun.

Moisturize. Summer temperatures can really dry out skin, too.  It’s important to up our full-body moisturizing routine.  To lock the lotion in, apply directly after patting dry from the shower.  Make sure to use a sensitive skin alternative if you tend to break out.  Use a moisturizer that includes sunscreen to knock out two essentials in one.

Blasting Blemishes. Speaking of breakouts, these can be more frequent as we sweat in the heat.  If you’re prone to breaking out, make sure to cleanse daily.  Stocking up on portal facial wipes can help to keep skin clear on-the-go.  Also, consider minimizing your makeup routine, so clogged pores won’t be especially susceptible to sweat.

Remember your lips. As our skin dries, our lips can easily get chapped as well.  Make sure to keep a medicated lip balm in your back pocket.  Consider one that contains sunscreen.  Apply before leaving the home in the A.M., then continue to reapply throughout the day to ensure the protective layer is always there, shielding your pucker.

Stay hydrated. Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go.  Consider a larger size that won’t need to be refilled as often.  There are also jogging belts for water bottles, so if you’re taking advantage of the nice summer weather to get your work out in, you can purchase one of these relatively inexpensively and carry a bottle with you.  Make sure you don’t wait until you’re thirsty to guzzle either.  Gradually sip the liquid throughout the day.   Since dehydration can also lead to sluggishness, getting your recommended daily intake of H20 will keep your energy levels up as well.  Intaking enough of this miracle liquid will keep skin moisturized and glowing and help us stay healthy.

Summer is a time to get outside and get moving.  The next time you head out for a daily dose of Vitamin D, remember these simple ways to stay healthy.
