I went to an open casting call on a Tuesday, came back for round 2 on Wednesday and joined them. Spent about $683 total after paying the one-time installment and for my professional pictures, but it's worth it honestly. That Saturday, they brought in a guest speaker to help us learn about the business and help us with our cold reading skills. If you want to be a professional in this business, Nine9 is the place for you. They took professional pictures of me the day I joined so I could have some on hand to apply for jobs and so I would have a comp card ready of needed. They set up a website for me as well.
Bottom-line, it's just like any other business. You get what you put into it. When I had my own personal training business I had to invest in my business before I saw a return in my profit. No one would have taken me seriously if I didn't have the right equipment to train them.
Buy some decent clothes at a discount store like Ross, Marshall's, any outlet store etc. Show up on time and read what they are looking for.
I received my first gig yesterday as an Extra and made all my money back and then some. Complainers wont go far in this business, but hard-workers and professionals will.
