How to Audition for Drama School – 6 Ways
If you’re thinking about auditioning for drama school, then you’re on the right track. Acting can be a hugely rewarding career, and drama school is one of the best ways to start your journey. However, it is important to make sure that you’re fully prepared before you go into your audition. In this blog post, we’ll give you some tips on how to do just that. So read on and learn everything you need to know about auditioning for drama school!
Do your research
The number one thing you can do is research the drama school you’re auditioning for. This way, you can show them that you know what they’re all about and that you’re genuinely interested in attending. Find out as much as you can about their curriculum, their teaching style, and their facilities.
Prepare for a cold reading
Another important aspect of auditioning for drama school is being prepared for a cold reading. This is where you’ll be given a piece of text to read on the spot, without any prior warning.
To prepare for this, it’s a good idea to brush up on your improvisation skills. This way, you’ll be able to think on your feet and come up with a credible performance, even if you don’t know the material beforehand.
Know your monologue inside out
If they give you advanced knowledge of what you’ll be reading, make sure you know your monologue inside out. This means memorizing it so that you can perform it without having to think about the words.
It’s important to be able to deliver the monologue convincingly, so make sure you understand the character you’re playing and the emotions you need to convey. If you can do this, you’ll be well on your way to nailing your audition.
Dress the part
Don’t get so caught up in your line that you forget to dress the part when you go to your audition. This doesn’t mean that you need to wear a full costume, but you should at least look like you’re ready to perform.
Avoid wearing anything too casual or too revealing, and make sure your clothes are comfortable so that you can move around freely. If in doubt, it’s always better to err on the side of caution.
Make a good impression
Try to make a good impression when you meet the drama school staff. Be friendly and polite, and try to engage in conversation where possible.
It’s also a good idea to bring a CV with you, so that they can see your experience and achievements. If you can do all of this, then you’re sure to make a good impression and stand out from the crowd.
Don’t be afraid to show your personality
One of the best pieces of advice we can give you is to be yourself. Your audition is your chance to shine, so don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through.
The staff at the drama school will be looking for someone who is genuine and authentic, so don’t try to put on an act. Just be yourself and let your talent do the talking!
Last but not least, try to relax and have fun. This is your chance to show off your acting skills, so enjoy it. If you can stay calm and focus on your performance, then you’re sure to do well. Break a leg!
