Batman and Superman Together in Theaters at Last!
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is the heavily anticipated superhero film produced by DC Entertainment. It hits theaters nationwide on March 25th, 2016. The film is a unique take on the DC Universe, being the first live action film to feature both Superman and Batman. It also will include several other DC characters such as Wonder Woman and the Flash. The cast is star studded, featuring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane the reporter. The film is directed by Zack Snyder, director of hit movies 300 and Watchmen.
Henry Cavill plays Superman for the second time in his acting career. He played Superman in Man of Steel in 2013, and was a perfect fit to play one of DC’s oldest and most famous superheroes. In an interview at the BAFTA Award Season Tea in LA, Cavill told reporters how much he loved playing the powerful hero. “I love the character. I love working with Warner Bros and what they’re doing with it,” he said. “So fingers crossed I’ll be able to tell the story for many, many more years to come.”
The film takes place after the events that took place in Man of Steel. It revolves around Batman’s will to travel to Metropolis to confront Superman, but they soon learn that a much bigger threat is blooming. It seems as if the two unique heroes will band together to fight a power greater than them, but not without some conflict. Ben Affleck has never really played a superhero like Batman, but director Zack Snyder was very confident when talking about his choice to cast him. “Casting Ben felt like a no brainer to me,” Snyder said. “I know that there was some backlash, but he’s just so perfect to me, especially in his size and age.”
The movie was shot in several different locations. Detroit was one of the main sites for filming, including shots of historical downtown buildings and other locations around Michigan.
The budget for this film was $250 million, but it is expected to be an immediate hit in the box office. It is estimated by Variety magazine that this movie will need to earn at least $800 million in order for the movie to be fiscally successful. While that may seem like an insurmountable amount of money, it is common for blockbuster movies to make that much in the box office over time. Superhero movies have become very popular, with DC and Marvel releasing more than one movie a year. With strong marketing and action packed trailers, people that are interested in action movies are bound to make a trip to the theater to see this one.
